La Tomatina Buñol, Spain

ONLY TIME

Aug 28 - $Varies

An all-out tomato warfare in the streets of Buñol in Spain. It is possibly the world's biggest food fight. Be prepared to throw out all of your clothes afterwards, including your shoes. To reduce the chance of a painful impact, it is highly recommended that you squish the tomatoes before you launch them towards a stranger. Another crazy but seemingly necessary recommendation is to keep part of your shirt, or even a fresh hand towel so you can wipe your eyes with something clean. Accommodations can get quite expensive, and they book out in advance so make sure to get ahead of it.

Pacific Northwest

BEST TIME

Jun 01 to Sep 30 - $Varies

Nature lover's delight; the Pacific Northwest in the US & Canada. A huge region so this is less of a specific recommendation and more of a general reminder that this part of the world is absolutely gorgeous during this time of year. The frigid winter weather turns into the perfect climate for exploration through a mountainous region with many bright blue lakes, luscious green hills, and high sea cliffs.

Burning Man Nevada USA

ONLY TIME

Aug 25 to Sep 02 - $575

One of the world's most famous music festivals where commercialization is the enemy and freedom of expression is the goal. The barter system is more valuable than your paper dollars (There are no vendors) in this crazy desert venue, and there will be, as the name suggests, a huge bonfire of a burning man sometimes 75 feet or even taller. The art installations are a main focus of this festival, as trippy as they can get.

Sleep in a Glass Igloo Finland

CHEAPEST TIME

Apr 01 to Nov 30 - $200

This attraction is incredibly popular during the winter when the nights are long, but the sky is lit by the dancing northern lights. In the summer you won't get the northern lights and you may be kept up all night by the very long sunlight, but the demand is super low so you can save about 3/4 of your budget and get to experience the long days of summer in Finland. You can go for a hike at midnight in full daylight!
