CHEAPEST TIME

May 01 to Sep 30

Winter is a low point in tourism but there are still tons of activities to do in the winter, some which can't be done any other time of year like whale watching and witnessing the best flower blooms. I was just talking to a traveler who couldn't recommend Cape Town high enough (literally 15 minutes before writing this), it has quite a good reputation. In the winter, there is also great surfing (and other similar activities), star-gazing, fishing, and peaceful wine tastings by a fireplace.

Mermaid Parade Coney Island, New York, USA

ONLY TIME

Jun 22 to Jun 22

"Possibly" the United States largest art parade... When I heard of this, I knew I had to feature it in this newsletter. I lived 18 years of my life within an hour of Coney Island and never heard of this parade, but to be fair I don't really hang around mermaids so what should I expect. I had to get multiple sources to verify this but Wikipedia and CNN both say that the attendance to this parade is over 800,000... Damn. How do I explain it? People dress up like mermaids and parade through the streets.

The Cliffs of Moher Ireland

BEST TIME

April to September

Maybe the most famous sea cliffs in the world and you only need to take a look at some photography to understand why. 1.5 million people per year travel to see this wonderful wall of rock. The highest point is 702ft (214m) above sea level, carved over an estimated ~320 million years and the erosion isn't stopping anytime soon. Some edged of the cliff are eroding at a rapid ~4ft/year. I just linked a website with a bunch of stock photos of the cliffs because their beauty is the most important thing.

Skydiving Over the Great Blue Hole Belize

ACTIVITY JUNKIES

The Great Blue hole is an absolute spectacle however you view it. Under the surface is one of the most well-known dive spots in the world, but from the sky you get to see the vastness of the natural phenomenon. Skydive in fashion, do it with a view. You can see in this video how obvious the blue hole is even right when these guys jump out of the plane.

Pinkpop Landgraaf, Netherlands - Jun 21 to Jun 23 - A pop-music festival headlined by Calvin Haris, Ed Sheran, Sam Smith, Hozier, Greta Van Fleet & more. It's 3 days long and amasses 60,000 visitors each year. - Official Website

Stanley Cup Unknown location USA - Jun 24 to Jun 24 - The pinnacle of Ice-Hockey, the Stanley Cup finals have not yet had a location announced, but if you're keen to watch behemoths of men slide around on razor blades and toss their gloves to the ground to beat each other up, keep an eye out for the announcement. For non-NHL fans: Did you know that there is only one current Stanley Cup (the trophy)? The players and coaches from the winning team get their names etched in the trophy each year so the current trophy has over 2,300 names on it. - Official Website

Electric Forest Rothbury, Michigan, USA - Jun 20 to Jun 23 - The forest comes alive at night. This is by far my favorite music festival ever. It is a magical 4 days each year where you are surrounded by the friendliest, happiest, and most giving people ever. The music is great but the experience in the forest is next level. I would relate Electric Forest to Disneyland (I've never been, but it gives me the feeling I think kids have when they go there) but for adults who like to part-take in extracurricular activities. They know who their crowd is and they pander to them perfectly. - Video

Midsummer Sweden - Jun 21 to Jun 22 - "Not like the movie at all" - My Swedish friend Marty, when I asked him about the celebration of Midsummer. It's a celebration of the longest day of the year where Swedes dance around a midsummer pole and decorate it with flowers... idk kinda sounds like the movie to me. I'd be careful what cup I drink out of (joking). - Blog

Barcelona Spain - May 01 to Jun 30 - On the longest night of the year, June 23rd tons of people will head to the beaches to drink dance and "be merry". Sounds like a great time to me. Make sure you spend some time to check out the incredible architecture of Antoni Gaudí. I've never seen any other architecture match it in all of my travels. - Blog

Hanoi Vietnam - May 01 to Sep 30 - In June the rice terraces are super luscious, I was not fortunate enough to see them in full bloom so I'll be jealous if you do. Northern Vietnam is already one of the most affordable places I've ever been but if you're willing to get a little wet (it's rainy season) and sweat in the heat (also summer), June may provide great value for you in Hanoi. Your budget will be able to land you a more luxurious place to sleep, and you won't be shoulder to shoulder with other global tourists when going to the most visited places in town. - Guide

Silversmithing Workshop Bali, Indonesia - Apr 01 to Jun 30 - When I was in Bali, I got stuck in Ubud and one of the reasons I fell in love with the place was because of all the activities that you can do there. This was one of my favorites because you're able to come with any picture of any design of any ring and they'll try their best to help you replicate it. It is an extremely affordable way to make some really cool jewelry and stamp your initials on the back too!
